Professor Adolph Ranked First for Impact During 2018-2022 Among Political Scientists
Professor Christopher Adolph, CSSS Associate Director and Core Faculty, has been ranked #1 in the world among political scientists for recent impact.
In an article published March 26th, 2025, by PS: Political Science and Politics titled "A Global Ranking of Research Productivity of Political Science Departments," Adolph was ranked first globally for recent impact, third globally for overall impact, and fifth globally for recent citations. This is largely due to his recent research on COVID-19 policies. The ranking assessment included data on 115,427 articles and 12,696 books from 5,568 faculty members and 178 departments across the globe.
In the same assessment, when adjusting for faculty size, the University of Washington's Department of Political Science was ranked second globally for recent impact (first in North America), 12th globally for overall impact (ninth in North America) and 13th globally for recent citations (10th in North America). The departments are ranked in terms of citations to articles published by faculty members, impact factors of journals in which they published, and number of top publications in which they published. The results include overall and recent productivity rankings, which measure the impact of the most-recent five-year period (2018-2022).
