Child and Adolescent Causes of Death Estimation (CA-CODE)

The Institute for International Programs at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (IIP-JHU) is conducting a project funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The CA-CODE investment will build upon two decades of investment carried out by the Child Health Epidemiology Reference Group (CHERG) and the Maternal and Child Epidemiology Estimation (MCEE) Project to further advance and refine methodological innovations in NCA-COD estimation. These estimates are used by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) routinely so that high quality and timely data are guiding the assessment of global, regional, and national priorities in maternal, neonatal, child and adolescent health (MNCAH) and in planning and evaluation of health intervention programs. The Foundation has also been using these estimates to guide investment in the MNCAH area.

The new CA-CODE phase of this long-time investment is an integrated project featuring five dynamic Objectives, including Methodological Innovations, Country Engagement, Estimates Harmonization, Evidence Exploration, and Results Dissemination.
